Joomla module
From OpenCATS
I've just had the development completed on my Joomla CATS module. I'll release it here shortly - but for the moment if you want to see it, it's in test at http://www.chasejobs.co.uk
- replaces the 'careers portal' entirely
- pulls data directly from the CATS MySQL db (it respects the 'public' checkbox when deciding whether to display or hide vacancies')
- it supports candidate questionnaires
- supports categorisation of jobs, with different job listings per category.
- applicants are entered directly into CATS backend databases, as if applicant was using the CATS career portal.
Note - this is a module developed for a single site. Released as-is for now.. customisation/code changes will/may be required to move this to another site. Guidelines on that to be developed.
This is a standalone Joomla module with no hooks into the CATS application - writes directly to the backend db & therefore will be released under the GPL. If anyone wants the code in advance of it being packaged into a formal component and module, it's available at http://www.opencats.org/downloads/backup-7.11.2008_12-24-20_chasejob.tar.gz
If you want to test the integration - there's a link from the demo site (it's in the menu at the top of this page). Create a job in the demo site and see it reflected in the Joomla-based job portal. Note the 'old' Job portal could still be used, if required.
This version currently considered to be version 0.1
Automated Installation
If you want to test the Joomla module, the simplest way is to run the joomlapack installer. To do this, download the archive file from the opencats download directory - http://www.opencats.org/downloads/site-www.chasejobs.co.uk-20081031-103400.zip and install it as if it were a brand new Joomla installation;
- unzip the archive file locally to your workstation
- upload the files to your site (please rename the .htaccess file in the root directory to htaccess.txt temporarily)
- run the Joomla installaiton by pointing your browser to http://www.example.com/installation/index.php
Once installed, the Joomla homepage for your site WILL NOT display!
you will need to edit helper.php in /your_path/modules/mod_catsone to have a valid MySQL username and password for your own cats installation.
Currently this installation has been tested and works reliably.
Note that this will install Joomla 1.5.2 with associated known security holes
Once installed, you are advised to immediately run the patch from Joomla 1.5.2 to the current stable release (currently Joomla 1.5.10).
Any/All questions in the forums please.
